Why Kim Hyun Joong doesn’t sing in English?

If you like Kim Hyun Joong’s music (if you read this article you normally do), you’ve probably already asked yourself two questions at some point :

1 / Why doesn’t he sing in English?
2 / Shouldn’t I take Korean lessons?

The first question doesn’t make a lot of sense. Since he is Korean, it is normal that he sings in his native language.
Do we ask French singers to sing in English?

And you know what ?
Even though we only understand a few words of Korean, all the little “h’s” sucked in, and all the sweeter undertones of this language are so charming that we don’t mind not understanding the words once we can feel the beauty of melodies (until the moment when we still feel the urgent need to throw ourselves on a dictionary and start translating the lyrics)

We therefore, definitively, gave up asking him to sing in English, and opted for the second solution, go learn Korean (piece of cake !)

We think nevertheless, that it would be good for the artist to  put english subtitles on his next  VM.

While waiting to become fully bilingual in Korean, we found a Kim Hyun Joong’s song in English (mostly)

“I’m a Million” is in English , with a small part of the chorus in Korean, unlike other songs which usually only have a few words of the chorus in English.

Kim Hyun Joong’s voice is also more acute when he sings in English (like when he sings in Japanese …)

Here is a (very free) translation of the lyrics. We are leaving the Korean part awaiting translation.
Who knows if a charitable soul knowing Korean comes through here, because Mr. Google Translate is only able to translate this language once in two.

Get ready to scream out loud
Filling up the gas　唸るV8
Turn it up, pump it all the way
二度と来ないこの瞬間 Yeah

Goin’ faster　レッドゾーン　振り切る My ride
Can’t nobody hold me down
引き離すすぐ I’ll be outta of sight

I made it to the top from way down
Ain’t gonna stop this now
逃れられない Your fate is in my hand
I made it to the top from way down
Ain’t gonna stop this now
出来るならさあ Slow me down
I don’t think so

I say I’m a million You say I’m a million
Hey you feel it ain’t no joking　わかるだろ Gon’ top it
I say I’m a million

Hurry up we ain’t got all day
そのまま今日が終わっていくAye
Only one shot to make it great
外せば二度と戻れない

Gotta show me what you’re all about
Get ready to Fly
Can’t nobody hold me down
このまま高くまで Touch the sky

I made it to the top from way down
Ain’t gonna stop this now
出来るならさあ Slow me down
I don’t think so

I say I’m a million You say I’m a million
Hey you feel it ain’t no joking　わかるだろ Gon’ top it
I say I’m a million

I say I’m a million You say I’m a million
Hey you feel it ain’t no joking　わかるだろ Gon’ top it
I say I’m a million
