Kim Hyun Joong continues his Michelin tour to introduce us is favorite restaurants. This week we have on the menu, among other things, Tabasco Pizza (not so Korean all this…).
It’s not sure that an Italian would approve pizza with pickles, tabasco and honey mix, but each country has its own ways (we eat pineapple pizzas lately, don’t we?)
About habits, we take this opportunity to advise you to forget all that you have been taught in terms of “good manners” if you are traveling in Korea, or even when you are watching the various Kim Hyun Joong’s videos.
Our values are not those of others countries, and we must try to understand them and not judge according to our education. Or… you don’t travel and stay at home…
Have you ever noticed that when you travel, you always meet someone who spends his time bitching? in general it’s a French!
As you have seen in the various Everyday Joong videos, eating food loudly is common and does not mean that the person is rude. On the contrary, it means that he enjoys what he is eating.
On the other hand, there are some things you must avoid if you don’t want that Koreans call you a savage :
– Never sort the food (and as far as possible, take what you grab the first time)
– Start your meals with soup.
– Do not make a chewing or sucking noise (with soup only).
– Do not make noise with your cutlery against the bowls and dishes.
– Do not eat with your mouth open
– Never remove what you don’t like from your plate.
– Never hold your bowl of soup or rice in your hands during a meal.
– Never leave any food left on your spoon during the meal
– Pieces that cannot be eaten at a meal (ex: crustacean shells) must be discreetly removed.
– Do not lift the bowls.
– You must use your spoon for the soup and the rice and not bring the bowl to your lips, the chopsticks are to be used for all other dishes.
– Never hold a spoon and chopsticks at the same time.
– Side dishes, such as kimchi or pickled radishes, should stay in their place. Never take the dishes containing them in your hands.
– Do not blow on the soup to cool it, even if it is hot
– Do not take too much: take what you need, no more. Waste, especially that of rice, is frowned upon.
– Always leave the rice on the side where it was placed.
We stop here for today. The list of “rules” is so long that it would take a long time for us to fully assimilate them.
In the meantime have some pizza with Kim Hyun Joong. It’s less complicated and you will find yourself on familiar ground.
Just avoid tabasco sauce like it was a cough syrup … We bet his poor bodyguard will never eat pizza again in his life.
