Kim Hyun joong posted a message on July 17, and a photo of a chicken dish on Facebook:
“It’s Chobok – Please be careful of the heat and take care of your health”
This is not, contrary to what we might think, another one of his gastronomic visits to one of his favorite restaurants, but the announcement of the first day of the hottest period in Korea.
What exactly is this about?
Chobok (early hot day), Jungbok (middle hot day) and Malbok (late hot day) are the three days marking the beginning, hottest summer periods in South Korea (a period called Sambok (Bok days) which normally lasts 30 days).
On its very hot days, Koreans consume dishes that are supposed to give strength and energy (boyangsik), because they think that food helps them reduce the exhaustion of the heat wave.
The most popular dish is Samgyetang: chicken soup in stew, rice filled, garlic, jujube and ginseng rich in protein.
초복입니다 더위 조심하시고 건강 유의하시길 바랍니다^^
