The show is directed by Yang Seong-ok (taepyeongmu dancer, a dance classified as an intangible cultural asset of South Korea) & Lia Kim (choreographer at One Million Dance Studio), and presented in augmented reality.
.
As part of the ‘Music and Dance in the Palace’ series, the Korean Cultural Center presents the online performance ‘Peace on Earth’ featuring taepyeongmu, a dance traditionally performed by the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. This dance is intended to wish peace and prosperity to the country, and is performed today by dancers wearing a relic of the royal costumes of yesteryear.
.
At the crossroads of Korean cultural heritage and new technologies, the show “Peace on Earth” benefits from augmented reality (AR). Indeed, the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration wanted to take advantage of the latest advances in digital imaging by calling on the technical assistance of SK Telecom.
.
Thanks to this partnership, taepyeongmu, a dance registered as an intangible cultural asset in the Land of the Morning Calm, associated here with contemporary dance, is reborn from the past through the magic of augmented reality.
.
Yang Seong-ok, a regular dancer of taepyeongmu, has joined forces with Lia Kim, a young dancer of international renown who works at the renowned One Million Dance Studio, in order to express their common desire to recover a calmer and more serene world in a global context still marked by the current health crisis.
.
For the occasion, Lia Kim will attempt a new approach to taepyeongmu dance, a performance that will be supported by the musical talent of percussionist Kim Dok-soo..
“Music and Dance at the Palace” is an online performance art series presented by the Korean Cultural Center in collaboration with the National Gugak Institute, the Korea Cultural Heritage Administration, and the Heritage Foundation. These online singing and dancing art performances allow the French audience to enjoy the charm and serenity of the performance.
