“A Bell Of Blessing”
It’s been three weeks since we try to find the reason for this name.
We are looking at all costs for a double meaning when there isn’t probably none. Should we simply take this “blessing bell” for what it currently represents in each religion ?
The bell who expresses, metaphorically, people feelings when they exult or when they cry, when they give thanks or when they beg, when they come together to ask for forgiveness and protection.
The bell who chase away catastrophes and appease “Evil”.
The bell poured with holy water, symbol of purity, represented by the white color in our western culture (for other cultures white does not have the same meaning )
The white color, could it explain why Kim Hyun Joon is dressed in white, while by his own admission he prefers to dress in black? Or this is just a coincidence ?
Each religion has “its” bell but in general its usefulness has been since the Middle Ages, at least on this side of the planet, always the same: it serves to warn and/or to gather.
Warn of a danger or prevent from a happy event.
Gather people around a prayer.
It even served in small villages in southwest of France to warn the villagers If a child became an orphan. The bell wouldn’t stop ringing until a family offered to foster the child. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
Nowadays bells continues to call us to prayer, and to give us the time (the tempo?). Even if we hear it less and less in the city, either because their sound no longer reaches us due to the noise pollution, or because the bell towers’ neighbors, inconvenienced by their noise, are suing the church which must stop bells definitively (yes that happens …)
So, a Bell of Blessings or a Blessing Bell ?
We decided to find a less simple meaning for this bell.
We do not conceive it, in the biblical or liturgical sense that it may represents for a believer of whatever religion, but as one of those glass bells, inside which we all find ourselves as in a cocoon, sheltered, under a protective veil.
While keeping the warning function of a traditional bell, sending us a message :
“It’s time to…”
Get us together?
“Be on your guard …”
Or simply
“Give attention…”
To others?
We will know on October 3, what message Kim Hyun Joong wants to send us …
