As Kim Hyun Joong told us at the pre-launch of this mini-series, don’t expect a funny story.
So anyone expecting a romantic comedy in the tradition of trendy Korean dramas should change the channel.

The subject matter is not light, but we like it a lot, and in its own way, we still find it very romantic, but we probably don’t have the same notion of romance as everyone else.

What we are sure of is that Kim Hyun Joong has put all his talent into this project, and taking on this role was, by his own admission, very hard on him psychologically.

Our curiosity led us to find out a little more about producer Matsuoka Tatsuya [Nagoya TV].

We’ve already talked about him, having found him producing one of the films in official selection at Cannes in 2020.
A romantic drama called FUIS MOI JE TE SUIS (Flee me I’m Following you) presented in France in two parts, the second of which is SUIS MOI JE TE FUIS (Follow me I’m running away from you).

More recently, at the end of 2023, we find Matsuoka Tatsuya at KINOTAYO – FESTIVAL DU CINÉMA JAPONAIS CONTEMPORAIN, producing a film that won a SOLEIL D’OR award.
The film is called Tsugaru Lacquer Girl (directed by Keiko TSURUOKA) and is based on the novel “Japan Dignity” by Miyuki Takamori.

The film was screened almost confidentially from December 2023 to March 2024 in selected cinemas in France.

These are the kind of films directed by Matsuoka Tatsuya and financed by Nagoya TV.

Captivating scenarios, deep, endearing characters with their own internal conflicts, strengths and weaknesses, closer to auteur films than blockbusters, and aimed at a discerning, well-informed audience.

As we await the teaser for LIFE WITHOUT HER, due for release in Japan in November, wouldn’t it be great if this new Nagoya TV production were one of the films screened at the 18th KINOTAYO Festival?

Would there still be time for the Selection Committee to make a choice?

Would the production still be able to submit it to the Selection Committee?

Would we at least have the chance to see it screened in a French cinema in the months to come?

We’d love to, and maybe if we ask them nicely they might want to too… 🤔
