Someone have asked us why we “shut down” the comments left about one of our videos as soon as we posted it on YouTube last month.
It’s true that we did “censor” them, which isn’t our usual practice.
Since then, we have taken the time to think about a more “diplomatic” response, because the hot take we would have liked to have given undoubtedly wouldn’t have gone down well at all.
First, we’d like to say sorry to a few people who took the time to leave some (very nice) comments. It’s not like us to censor people’s writing without any explanation.
We believe it’s always important to defend your point of view. We don’t all have to have the same taste, and if there’s something we don’t like, it’s best to be honest. Reading your comments and different opinions from our own helps us to question our beliefs.
However, that particular day, two or three “amazons” (who we saw were already summoning a whole battalion to their aid) took it upon themselves to try win around each and every one of the people who had commented to their point of view, claiming that we were threatening the life of “their little angel” and even translating the words into English – despite there already being a translation in the video!
(They also warned us that someone had posted an “inappropriate” video on our YouTube account?!?! Yep, you read that right…)
Do we, too, have the right to point out that we find this “little angel” image for Kim Hyun Joong profoundly troubling?
The “little angel” is a 36-year-old MAN and – cover your ears because we’re going to use a very very rude word – although this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone – the FATHER of a child.
(This deals a real blow to the whole asexual angel vibe, doesn’t it?)
Anyway, that’s by the by.
Judge our videos as you will. Think it inappropriate, rubbish, ill-conceived or tongue-in-cheek. Comment, give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down, do whatever you want – but don’t try to get others to agree with you at all costs. If everyone had the same point of view, it’s true that plenty of conflicts would be avoided, but life would be pretty boring.
Why did we use this music as a backdrop to the images? Why didn’t we use Kim Hyun Joong’s music? Why did we make a video like this?
The simplest answer we can give you is: because we wanted to!
However, we’ll keep things polite and instead tell you that it was :
- Because these to much beautiful images inspired us this.
– - Because we believe that the lyrics of this song are some of the most beautiful declarations of love put to music by an artist, and we all have the right to like them or not – but it would never occur to us to censor or not listen to Katie Melua (although we understand that if the lyrics are taken literally, they could bother and even offend some people).
– - Because when we combine images of Kim Hyun Joong with songs of his, we get accused of “stealing” views from his original songs. (As if small amateur videos could eclipse what a whole team of professionals has posted on his official websites!)
– - Because our only goal is to boost Kim Hyun Joong’s visibility in our own modest way, and we need to get people talking about him and to remind those who have drifted away that he’s still around.
Why do you think we do all this? To get likes? Or subscribers? We couldn’t care less about any of that!
Our only hope is that plenty of us will come together somewhere in Europe for a Kim Hyun Joong’s concert, should he honour us with a date on his next tour (and if he doesn’t, we’ll go to Seoul and take him out – and, yes, that is a threat!)*
We’re kidding, of course. The only offences we could commit against him here are very, very tiny moments of indecency and we’re pretty sure Mr. Hyun Joong can cope with that.
To finish off our little sermon, we’d simply like to say that we shouldn’t be fighting among ourselves.
Let’s not make foes out of friends.
Let’s save our energy for other, much more important, battles.

* Why have we the feeling we’re going to get (even more) grief ?
I’m extremely pleased to discover this website dedicated to Hyun-Joong.
I wanted to thank you for this read!! I really enjoyed it. I do not always agree with you but as you say it is beneficial to have different opinions. I love to discover different points of view and I must admit that those I find here change the syrupy opinions that I can see elsewhere. I hope for you that Hyun-Joong will check on his list France for his next tour, you deserve it and not being very far I will take my ticket without a doubt (Carola – a HyunJoong’s Dutch fan from and for long time)
I have said this before and will say it again here. I like this website very much and appreciate the highly creative graphics. To each of their own but perhaps not everybody understands sophisticated but somewhat quirky French humor….
