Over a decade ago, K-drama fans discovered Kim Hyun Joong on the hit series Boys Over Flowers.

Today, the Korean singer-actor, who introduced us to the romantic excitement (and frustration) of supporting role syndrome, is finally in the Philippines to meet his fans and give them a dose of nostalgia.

While last appearing on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Hyun Joong reminisced about his early career, which mainly consisted of playing the role of Yoon Ji-hoo in Boys Over Flowers.

Asked by the “conversation king” how this role changed his life, the Korean darling admitted that the drama series has been booming not only in Korea but around the world, which has had a huge impact. on his career as a singer-songwriter as an actor.

In fact, the series is very popular all over the world, not just in the Philippines and Korea.

My whole life has changed, not only as an actor, but also as a singer ,” he continues.

Before portraying Yoon Ji-hoo in the hit drama series, Kim Hyun Joong was a member of boy band quintet SS501.

Although the group has been inactive since 2010, the Boys Over Flowers star has continued to release music.

There is no doubt that the Hallyu wave is alive and well in the Philippines, and Hyun Joong said it could be due to the similarities between Korean and Filipino cultures, such as the love of karaoke, singing and billiards.

In Korea, there are too many karaoke lovers to sing, there are also a lot of billiards ,” he said.

“People [in Korea] are happy. Filipinos, I noticed they were happy [too]
,” he added.

Emphasizing the innate “great energy” of Filipinos, Hyun Joong speculated that a “Filipino wave” may soon emerge around the world.

In the Philippines there is energy, and in the near future, the Philippines will soon have a wave ,” he said.

Besides his role in Boys Over Flowers, Hyun Joong has starred in the series Playful Kiss and When Time Stopped.

He recently performed in Manila on Friday April 28 as part of his The End of A Dream tour.
