We can’t be nostalgic for a period we didn’t live through, and the song “Because I’m Stupid” may bring back fond memories for some, but for us it’s always left us cold as marble.
We agree that it’s a very pretty song, with a melody that’s easy to remember and love lyrics that haven’t aged a day, but it’s not attached to any part of our lives, and to be honest we’ve always wondered why we keep deporting ourselves to the past when there are so many beautiful more recent songs.
But the inexplicable reason is probably the same as why BOYS OVER FLOWERS continues to be watched so many years after its release.
That said, we know how to put ourselves in the shoes of those who like this song, because we tell ourselves that in 10 years’ time we’ll be just as nostalgically asking for ‘Four Seasons’ or ‘Rightabout’ and looking just as lost in our memories.
Why are we talking to you about “Because I’m Stupid”?
Because there’s a group of four very young Korean artists (they were 7 at their beginnings) who were advised to sing a revisited version of this song.
They all have very nice voices but… they don’t look very happy when they perform the song on stage.
Yes, all the misfortune in the world seems to have fallen on their shoulders, and we imagine that they would perhaps have preferred to do a cover of a more ‘dynamic’ song.

Patience young people, don’t despair. We’ve seen others start out with “wise” tracks and end up with frenzied rhythms at the top of the charts.
We’d like to thank them, because they’ve spared us the trouble of going out with boom-boom rhythms accompanied by choreographies that all look the same.
Anyway, they sing well (find us a Korean who doesn’t sing well), they’re cute, and their video clip is full of tarot symbols whose meaning everyone will intuitively interpret (or not) according to their culture and age.
This week they were guests on KBS World TV and they came out of it very well; we give them a score of 99/100.
The remaining 1/100 goes to the person who took care of their visuals and dressed them in three Colombo-style mackintoshes.
Give them a thumbs up and a kind heart to motivate them, it costs nothing and they will be pleased.
