For those who wonder what it is, it’s a day where boys thank girls for the chocolates they were given on Valentine’s Day.
Still don’t get it?
Normally on this side of the world, on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, girls expect a more or less carat heavy jewel from their men (after a few years of married life if you are lucky you will receive a bouquet of red roses and should consider yourself very happy).
In Asia, on Valentine’s Day, it’s up to the girls to offer their love and/or friendship to the boys: lovers, friends or work colleagues, by offering them white chocolates at the origin (another chocolate factory that found a good thread…)
In Japan, a clever marshmallow manufacturer, in order to sell his surplus goods, thought of introducing a few years ago the ‘White Day’.
It was decided that March 14th would be the day when men had to return the courtesy to women by offering them three times what they had received on Valentine’s Day (sanbai-gaeshi or “triple return”).
Now you know why most Asian men are bedridden with a headache on Valentine’s Day?
To avoid getting their box of chocolates… the cheapskates!
So, that’s why on this March 14, we have 3 pictures instead of one.
At least, that’s what we understood, but since most of the time we don’t understand exactly the same thing as everyone else, we’ll say that Kim Hyun Joong just wanted to give us three times his Oreo Cake..
Anyway, this day still makes us think that time passes very quickly for some things.
Exactly one year ago, after discovering the singer of Why and Four Seasons, we “opened” for the first time this video of HJ Channel, where our recent musical crush, was very strangely concentrated in the middle of a culinary demonstration.
Since then we got used to it…
